summer kind of sneaks up on us.

One minute, it’s chilly mornings and busy schedules, and the next, it’s sun soaked evenings, barefoot kids running through sprinklers, and sticky fingers from one too many popsicles.

Even quicker than it came, it’s gone.

That’s why we believe in holding on to the real, unscripted joy of summer. Years from now, you don't want to just rely on your memory, let images preserve your loved ones as they really are.

Here’s how we approach summer sessions at Ringing Bell Photography.

1. The Less Perfect, the Better

Some of the most beautiful moments happen when no one’s looking at the camera, and can lead to genuine smiles.

We don’t come in with a script. You don’t need to pose a certain way or make your kids “behave.” This is your family, let your love shine through the pictures. Those are the images that last.

2. Chase the Light, Not the Clock

In the hour or so before sunset, the lighting can be awe inspiring, (photographers call it golden hour, but honestly, it just feels like magic).

We plan our sessions around light, not rigid timelines. Whether you’re at the lake, in your backyard, or walking through a field at dusk, light tells the story. Summer gives us some of the best light of the year.

3. Wear What You Love, Not What You “Should”

Don’t overthink the outfits.

We always tell families and couples to wear what makes them feel comfortable and confident, whether that’s a flowy dress, your favorite jeans, or that linen shirt you live in all summer.

Neutrals and soft tones photograph beautifully, but the most important thing? You feel like you. When you’re relaxed, the connection and joy come through effortlessly.

4. Let the Chaos In

Yes, the kids will get sandy. Yes, someone’s hair will blow into their face. Yes, a moment might get interrupted by a bug or a giggle fit, and that’s okay.

Honestly? We love it.

Summer isn’t meant to be tidy. It’s intended to be felt, lived, and sometimes a little sticky and loud. Those “imperfections” are where the most honest, joyful moments live.

5. Make It Yours

Your summer doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Whether it’s a morning in the garden, an evening bonfire, a hike through your favorite trail, or just a picnic in your backyard, your story is worth documenting.

At Ringing Bell Photography, we’re not here to create a version of summer that looks good on Instagram. We’re here to help you remember what it felt like to live it, with the people you love most.

Ready to Make It Last?

If you’ve been meaning to slow down, capture these fleeting days, and hold on to the little things, this is your sign.

Let’s grab the camera and chase the sun. Let’s make space for laughter, movement, stillness, and everything in between. Let’s tell your summer story, exactly as it is.
